Hey John, thanks for reaching out!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14029 is the heaviest-duty receiver we have for your 1997 Chevy Suburban, but it has a max tow rating of 12,000 lbs and that's when a weight distribution system is being used.

If you want something with a higher rating, then you'll need to have a shop install a universal hitch like the Curt # 15901 which will require modifications - so it's completely up to you if you want to go that route or not.

The other thing to keep in mind is the weight rating of your Suburban directly. Usually trailer hitches that fit vehicles have a higher weight rating so it would be worth checking out your owner's manual to make sure you aren't exceeding it.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey John, did you end up going with the Curt hitch or the universal option for your Suburban? Knowing which route worked best could help others towing heavy trailers like yours. Your experience could point others in the right direction.

@JonG Since nobody offered a class 5 hitch for my k2500 suburban I took a class 4 bolted and welded it to the frame also reinforced it with plates ànd gussets.
