Can Curt Echo Be Used While Also Using Smartphone For Bluetooth Backup Camera?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/04/2025

Question:

I use a Bluetooth connected camera while towing. Am I correct in assuming I can use my Bluetooth camera once I set up the Echo controller and will just not be able to use the Echo app for manual override but would be able to override using the optional pushbutton?

Hello Donald, thanks for getting in touch. Your assumption is correct. Once you set up the Curt Echo controller # C51180, you will be able to switch back to your camera, and the Echo will continue to work. All of your sensitivity settings will stay the same until you go back to the app to change them.

You would have to switch away from your camera and go back to the Curt app to use the in-app manual override button. Or you can get the separate manual override button part # C83HR. This will work, as long as you have the Curt app running in the background. So that will be a great add on if you want to primarily use your phone for your camera.

Hey Donald, how did things go using your Bluetooth camera along with the Curt Echo controller? Did the manual override button work smoothly while the app ran in the background? Your update could make it easier for others trying the same setup.
