Tandem Axle Suspension Upgrade For 2020 Keystone Cougar 27RES

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 02/27/2025

Question:

2020 Keystone Cougar 27RES. Looking at upgrading the tandem axle suspension by adding a wet-bolt kit and trying to decide between an AllTrek 4000 equalizer OR a Lippert shock kit. Curious about which would provide the best ride and also wondering how much the AllTrek equalizer would raise the ride height? The Alltrek is substantially taller than the existing stock equalizer so it looks as though it raises the ride height quite a bit?

Hello Joe, thanks for reaching out. The best option here will be to go with a shock kit like the Lippert # LC281281. Shocks are an easy add-on that will immediately make for a more comfortable ride.

The MORryde ALLTREK 4000 equalizers are a nice upgrade option, but if they are not identical in size to the stock equalizers, they will not work as a replacement. Your trailers suspension is built around a certain equalizer size, and there is very little tolerance. There are ways to raise the ride height of your trailer, but adding a taller equalizer is not one of them. The ALLTREK 4000 is 6-1/2" long and 4-1/2" tall as you can see in the diagram below. If you can tell me the dimensions of your equalizer, I am happy to look into it and see if we have an upgraded equalizer option for you. Otherwise, the shock kit will be a great option that can be added regardless of equalizer size.

Hey Joe, how did things go with the Lippert shock kit on your Cougar’s tandem axle suspension? Did it give you the smoother ride you were hoping for? Your feedback could really help others comparing the shock kit and the AllTrek equalizers.
