Looking For E-Bike Rack For Bumper Pull Travel Trailer

Updated 02/21/2025 | Published 02/18/2025

Question:

Looking for an ebike rack to install on the back of a bumper pull travel trailer. Bikes are 52 pounds with a front fender. Can remove the fender when transporting the bikes, would prefer not to. Thoughts on options? Thanks!

Hello Stu, thanks for getting in touch. For a travel trailer approved e-bike rack, what I recommend is the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack # S94FR. This rack has a reenforced shank, making it suitable for RVs and travel trailers. It has a 70 lb per bike weight rating.

This rack uses ratcheting hooks that attach to the frame of the bike, so fenders will not be an issue. It also works with a lot of alternative/step thru frames. The picture below shows a good example of this rack being used with a few e-bikes with fenders.

What bikes do you have specifically? Is this your first time hauling them? Or have you owned other bike racks in the past?

Thanks Jesse! We are new to ebikes and transporting them on the back of our travel trailer. We are looking at Gazelle Modeo T9 with no top tube. I suppose that I can go with the Swagman adapter bar to allow the proper connection. Any concerns with that configuration? Any reduction in weight capacity from the 70 pounds per bike? Also, an concern with damage to the seat post or gooseneck with using the adapter bar?

@StuA Ok great! So With those Gazelle Modeo T9 bikes, you may be able to get away with attaching the hook to the frame without the need for the adapter bar. Both hooks can drop down pretty far, but it will be close. If needed, you can use the adapter bar part # S57FR, but the only way to know for sure will be to put the bikes on the rack and see. No concerns with that configuration at all. The adapter bars are completely safe to use if needed. The adapter bars have plastic coated hooks, so we really do not see them cause any damage to the seat post or handlebar. All the bar is doing is holding the hook/rack in place. It is not bearing a ton of weight. To answer your other questions, the 70 lbs actually is the reduced capacity for travel trailers. The full capacity is 80 lbs per bike when used on a car, truck or SUV. It is a good strong rack. It is also going to be straightforward and easy to use. A good choice for your first bike rack. It also has a built in bike lock and hitch lock to protect your bikes (I see they aren't cheap). As always just reply below if there is anything else I can help with. This kind of stuff is right up my alley and I am here to help :)
