Hello Sandy, thanks for reaching out. We do have cargo carrier options that can go offroad. For that you will just want to avoid any of the folding carriers, since the folding portion would be a weak point. A fixed carrier will be much better for offroad. For that, I recommend the Reese 60x24 Hitch Cargo Carrier # 63153. This will work with any 2" hitch, and it has a 500 lb capacity. Since you will be offroad, I recommend also using the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer # BX88224 to help stabilize the carrier and reduce any play at the hitch.

Even with the fixed carrier and anti-rattle device, I have to recommend that you take it slow and do whatever you can to reduce the amount of jarring and shock as much as possible. Cargo carriers are not meant for extreme off-roading, but as long as you take it slow you should be fine.

Hey Sandy, how did the fixed Reese cargo carrier and the Blue Ox immobilizer work out on your offroad trip with the Suburban? It’d be great to hear how the setup handled the rougher terrain. Your update could make it easier for others planning similar trips.
