Hey Justin, thanks for reaching out!

According to the online version of the 2016 Chevy Sonic manual, all of the Sonic models can be flat towed unless it's the RS model with an auto transmission, so it looks like you're good to go. I recommend verifying this in your copy of the manual as well.

To get your Sonic flat tow ready I recommend picking up the following parts:

- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-523173-5
- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e74ZR
- Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit # RM26FR
- FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch (optional) # RM76511
- Demco Brake Kit # DM86VR for hydraulic motorhome brakes or part # DM26VR for air motorhome brakes
- High-Low Adapter (see attached article - bar mount height is 15-1/2")

This list gives you the best parts for an easy flat-towing experience. The tow bar and base plate are easy to connect together, the wiring is just plug and play after the installation, and the brake kit stays installed on the vehicle but out of the way, so you don't know it's even there when you aren't using it. The front of your Sonic will also look clean when you aren't flat towing so that's a positive as well.

I'm attaching some installation videos for you to check out.

Do you have any big trips planned out for this year yet?

Hey Justin, how did things go getting your Sonic set up for flat towing? Were the base plate and tow bar a good fit for your setup? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same car.

@JonG it went alright. I had to cut and modify it to clear the zzp intercooler but I've been flat towing it for a few months with no issues
