Hey Layne; that is a great question! The etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e23ZV is designed to withstand all kinds of weather. It actually has weatherproof buttons covered with a rubber-like boot to keep water out.

On top of that, yes, there is a cover which is included with the jack. Between the built-in protection and the canvas cover the jack will hold up really well over time. It is also backed by a limited lifetime warranty. All of this applies to the 5,000 lb version of the jack as well # e55ZV.
