Recommended Supplemental Braking System for a Diesel Pusher RV

Updated 01/19/2025 | Published 01/18/2025

Question:

I have been towing my 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk behind my diesel pusher with a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar and EvenBrake for braking. We are moving to 2024 Gladiator Rubicon X. Roadmaster has confirmed available direct connect baseplate and wiring. My question is about braking. Would you recommend keeping the EvenBrake with a second car install or Demco Duo or Invisibrake? Thanks!

Congrats on the new Jeep! If you are happy with your Roadmaster Even Brake item # RM-9400 I would transfer it over. We do have it as a recommended braking system for the 2024 Gladiator Rubicon X.

Now, if you are looking for a reason to upgrade to a permanent system, I strongly recommend the Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes item # SM99243. it uses air pressure from your RV's brakes to apply the brakes on your Gladiator. The included air hose will go from the air assembly in the RV to the operating unit in the Jeep.

With diesel pusher motorhomes this also helps to prevent false braking that can occur with other supplemental braking systems, like the Duo item # SM99251, that use the motorhome's brake lights to trigger the system instead. Since the exhaust brake activates the brake lights it will also activate the brakes on the Jeep when using a system like this.

The Air Force One system only uses air pressure from the motorhome's brakes so you won't have this problem. I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get it set up.
