How to Address a Sagging Issue w/ a 9,500 lbs Trailer and a Toyota Sequoia

Published 01/15/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 Toyota Sequoia Capstone that I use to tow a 32 foot travel trailer. The Toyota can tow 9500 lbs, and my trailer is 7300 lbs dry. In a recent trip from CA to Grand Canyon I noticed some sag. Do you recommend air bags or anything else to help stabalize the ride?

Hey Roy, that sounds like a fun trip! I recommend addressing your sagging issue with a weight distribution system not air bags. The best one for your trailer is going to be the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37140ET. This system works with tongue weights ranging from 1,000 lbs - 1,400 lbs so it'll be perfect for your trailer when loaded.

The Equal-i-zer item # EQ37140ET works by distributing the weight more evenly to the tow vehicle. This is how the sagging issue will be addressed. Rather than the weight being centered on the coupler, where the trailer and vehicle connect, the weight distribution hitch distributes the weight across the axels of the vehicle and the trailer.

As an added bonus, item # EQ37140ET has built in sway control that will keep your trailer in line with your Sequoia. This is helpful when you're making a sudden lane change, get passed by a semi, or encounter a strong gust of wind. This will be extremely useful when traveling in California due to the high winds in certain areas.

I have linked a faq below that will give you some more information on weight distribution hitches. Feel free to email me directly or comment below with any additional questions.

@Roy That's going to be the best way to go. I recommend going back and making sure it was set up properly and checking to see if it fits the capacity of your trailer's tongue weight.

@Roy I am not familiar with them or their work, but I recommend looking at the instructions below and setting it up yourself. What capacity system do you have?
