Help Selecting Weight Distribution Hitch For 28' Intech Enclosed Trailer

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/03/2024

Question:

I have a 28’ Intech enclosed car trailer I tow with a 3/4 ton Super Duty. After buying a new set of tires for the truck I’ve noticed more sway than before so I’d like to be safe and get a weight distributing sway control hitch. My tongue is covered on the top eg the tongue frame rails have diamond plate over the top so cant clamp around that unless I cut a hole in the top. The factory did weld extra plates on the tongue rails for prep for a sway control hitch. What do you suggest? And do you have picture of the install? I can send a picture if it helps.

Hey Jim, I can definitely point you in the right direction. First I would really like to see these "extra plates" that are welded to the tongue rails. There is no way to add pictures on here, but you can email them to me. Just reply to the email that brought you to this page and it will go straight to me. Hopefully we can utilize these existing plates, otherwise we might be able to do bolt on chain hangers like part # RP58305. Or if you are comfortable cutting thru the diamond plate that would allow for a lot more options for a WD hitch like a Blue Ox or Equalizer.

Let me look at what you are working with and we can take it from there.

Also if you can let me know the GVWR or tongue weight of your enclosed trailer that will be helpful in selecting the right WD hitch

Hey Jim, what did you end up finding when you checked those welded plates on your trailer tongue? Once you had a look, were you able to move forward with the chain hangers or another weight distribution setup? Your update could make it easier for others working with a similar enclosed trailer.

@JesseM I just ended up a installing a sway control bar only. I didn’t need WD, just sway control. I should have been more specific.

@JimB Thanks for the follow-up, Jim! That sounds like a good call if you didn’t need full weight distribution. A simple sway control bar can do the trick in a lot of cases. Appreciate you clearing that up!
