Question:
Will this hitch fit a 2024 toyota 4runner and is it easy to install / uninstall so you dont have to keep it on the vehicle all the time. Just want it on the vehicle when I am actually using the hitch. Once its on the vehicle, how easily is it taken off and would theft be a possibility? Thanks,

Hey Robin,
The Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack # S64670 installs with a threaded hitch pin which is fine, but can be a bit of a pain in the butt if you're planning on taking it on and off your 4Runner frequently. A LOT of bike racks use this style of pin because it's more cost-effective than a quick-pin system. We have both styles for sure, but if you're wanting something that's easier to install and remove, we'll have to look at some nicer racks since the XTC2 is a very entry-level rack when it comes to quality and features.
For a better bike rack that has a tool-free installation and a similar style we have the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR. In photos the Sport Rider SE looks the same as the XTC2, but if you were to get your hands on both bike racks you'd find that the Sport Rider is much more of a solid rack and everything just operates a lot more smooth as well. The Sport Rider also comes with bike and rack locks while the XTC2 comes with neither.
To sum things up, you get what you pay for with the bike rack so if you're just needing something to occasionally get bikes from point A to point B then the XTC2 will get the job done, but if you're wanting something that's easy to use for frequent trips then the Sport Rider is what you'll want to live with.
I do want to clarify one thing about the locks; here at etrailer we "classify" all locks as theft deterrents because given enough time, energy, and resources any lock can be broken. The locks on the Sport Rider are great for peace of mind if you're stopping for lunch or need to run into the store, but I wouldn't rely on them to keep your bikes safe if you're staying at a hotel.
Attached are example videos of both bike racks for you to check them out in action as well.

Hey Robin, how did things go with the bike rack for your 4Runner? Did you end up trying the Sport Rider SE for the easier on-and-off use? Your feedback could really help others deciding between these two racks.
