Updated 11/06/2024 | Published 11/05/2024

Question:

Good morning, I have the curt 17063 weight distribution hitch set up on my F150 towing a Haulmark car trailer with 8 frame rails. When i put the bars on with the brackets on top frame rail the chains are almost touching frame rails. so when I turn a little the chains are hitting the 8 frame rails. Have you guys ever heard of this. Curt couldnt give me a answer. please let me know. Thank you Bruce

Hey Bruce, I have not personally heard of that but I did go ahead and check out the instructions to see if anything like that was mentioned. What I think is happening is you have your chains adjusted up too high. Curt specifies that the Curt Round Bar Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control # C17063 should have a minimum of 5 links between the lift bracket and spring bar.

I recommend going through the adjustment instructions again and make sure that the height is correctly set.

Bryce I’m on the last chain. If anything I might need to extend the chains. Thoughts

@BruceM That's very weird. Did you go through the install again to verify if it was installed correctly?

@BryceD Yes It works on my camping trailer perfect. Just wondering if it has to do with frame rails being 8” tall Do I need to with a different bracket Maybe round bar to the brackets that go over a entire frame Eliminate chains

@BruceM I see the issue. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Curt makes a round bar WDS for 8" frame rails, but they do have the Frame Brackets for Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17515 which will work with 8" frames but won't work with your current WDS.
