Recommended Self Tapping Screws for Mounting Brake Lines

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/21/2024

Question:

I have a 1989 27inch galvanized boat trailer that came with no brakes. The frame uses 3x2inch profile beams. I bought these rubber hose lines, but Im not sure where should I install them: on top of the beam so dirt and rocks can hit them as I drive down the road or on the side so I steep in the frame without stepping into the hose? Whats the best location? Also, what type of self tapping screws should I use to secure the line? These beams are thick.

Hey David welcome back! I would mount the rubber hoses on the side of the frame, for the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit item # 20TA-BLKIT. To attach the line holders, I recommend the Self-Tapping Screw - 1/4" -14 x 3/4" Long - Zinc item # FA1131822.

Hey David, how did the side-mount setup for the brake hoses on your boat trailer turn out? Did the self-tapping screws hold well in those thick beams? Your update could make it easier for others working on similar frames.
