Is Trimming Needed on Honda CR-V to Install Blue Ox Trailer Hitch BLU55UR

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/20/2024

Question:

Your Tech Tip indicates this below [yet this particular receiver hitch mounts under the facia] reads Underbody panels and/or fascia must be temporarily loosened or removed. Trimming may be needed to reattach panel or fascia. How so? Please verify. Thanks.

Hi Duane,

You definitely have to remove the underbody panel of your Honda CR-V to install the Blue Ox Trailer Hitch Receiver # BLU55UR.

But you may or may not have to trim the underbody panel, as you can see from the cutout of the instructions of the # BLU55UR that I added below. This is similar to the other hitches for the CR-V, as it gives the hitch a place to protrude. If I had to guess I 'd say you will need to do that trimming, though it's a pretty small section overall.

Hey Duane, how did things go with removing the underbody panel and trimming it for the Blue Ox hitch on your CR‑V? It’d be great to hear if the fit turned out as expected. Your update could make it easier for the next person working on the same setup.
