Can 800 lb Reese Trunnion Bar Work in Place of 600 lb Draw-Tite Trunnion Bar

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/14/2024

Question:

Hello, Looking to replace my Draw-tite trunnion bars only. I presently have Draw-tite 600 Model 81514. On your website I only see the Reese replacement bars but looks to stop at 800 lbs TW model RP22225. Can these be used as replacements for the Draw-tite 600 Model 81514 on my existing hitch setup? Or do I need to find the Reese 600Lbs TW RP23227? Thanks

Hey Jeff, thanks for all of the info and the photos!

The 600 lbs TW Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar RP23227 was discontinued back in 2020 so that's (unfortunately) out of the equation. The 800 lbs TW Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar # RP22225 will physically fit with your current parts, but it will increase your tongue weight range to 400 lbs - 800 lbs. As long as your loaded trailer tongue weight is in that range you'll be good to go!

Hey Jeff, how did things turn out with the 800‑lb trunnion bars on your Draw‑Tite setup? Did the new tongue‑weight range work well for your trailer? Your update could make it easier for others replacing older bars.
