Troubleshooting Holes Not Lining Up On Curt Front Hitch 31322

Updated 08/31/2026 | Published 10/04/2024

Question:

I bought a 31322-bk front hitch and the final bolt at the end of the hitch to the cross member of the frame does not fit. I have been a mechanic for years, I have all bolts very loose and even used a 30 inch clamp to try to pull the hitch so the holes would line up, NO JOY. What is your recommendation?

Hello Randy, you are referring to the single bolt that installs on the forwardmost part of the hitch (pictured below), is that correct?

How much is the hole off by? If it is off by a small about you can use a drill to enlarge the hole slightly if that helps get the bolt through. These hitches are made of a mild flex steel so it is not uncommon for them to bend slightly. If you are able bend the piece of the hitch back into position that will be fine too, just do so carefully. If you are not able to bend it back, or if it seems like the hole was drilled wrong during manufacturing, we will have to replace the hitch. The # 31322 is the correct hitch for the 2012 Chevy 1500, so it should be fitting. Let me know if I can do anything else to help.

Hey Randy, how did things turn out with the Curt front hitch on your Chevy 1500? Did enlarging the hole or bending the hitch slightly help the bolt line up? Your update could make it easier for others running into the same fit issue.

@JesseM I see randy didn't reply back, I've reached out many times about mine on 2013 chevy silverado 1500 z71. Tried everything, even tried 2nd hitch. Still won't reach!!
