Trailer Hitch Extension For Bike Rack To Clear Opened Tailgate On Toyota Tundra

Question:
Trying to decide whats the best choice between a 2towing extension adapter or an adapter from 2inch to11/4. Its for a kuat rack 2bikes to a towing bar of a T Tundra, after tilting the rack , still tailgate cant be opened all the way. Thank you for your time with this.

You will find that opening a tail gate all the way is just not possible with a hitch mounted bike carrier on a pickup truck. Since the tail gate extends so fat beyond the bumper when opened it would require a bike carrier to almost lay flat.
Using any adapter or extension in your trailer hitch will reduce the capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
An adapter like part # 80300 would extend the hitch and possibly give you the clearance you need for your Kuat bike carrier. This extension has a distance of 7-inches between the pin holes. The overall length of this adapter is 11-1/2 inches.
We also have a hitch extender that features 18-inches from center to center of the hitch pin holes. This part # HE18. The overall length of this adapter is 23-inches.
