Raising the Height of a Tandem Axle Boat Trailer with Leaf Springs Mounted on Top of the Axles
Updated 05/09/2016 | Published 05/08/2016 >
Question:
I have a tandem axle boat trailer that scraps at the top of the boat ramp when pulling the boat out of the water or putting it in the water. I would like to raise the trailer 1-1.5 inches to fix the problem. The trailer already has over axle suspension and need some advice on how to lift it.

Expert Reply:
Since the leaf spring stack is already on top of the axle on your boat trailer you can raise the height by having taller hangers welded on. I have included a link to our trailer suspension hanger main page for you.
Most trailer hangers need to be welded on. Welding should be done by a professional welder.
Another option is to use taller tires on the trailer provided that there is enough clearance above the existing tires to go to a size larger enough to fit your needs.
