Question:

Hi, I have a 2022 Sunlite 16BH camper with a dexter axle. want to replace the springs as theyre a weak point prone to flattening. Would like to upgrade if possible, more arch, possibly higher load capability and a slightly longer shackle. wanting more tire clearance. the springs are 26inch long and 1 3/4inch wide. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jason; do you know the capacity of your Dexter axle? More arch for height isn't really a thing, and I wouldn't get longer shackles since that would throw off suspension geometry and be uneven since the front hanger stays the same. It is acceptable to move to a higher capacity spring so that is the best option here. If you have a 3,500 lb axle (based on specs you probably do) the # e22YR you looked at would last longer with a capacity of 4,000 lbs. This also isn't such a large increase that you will get a stiff, bumpy ride.

If you want to lift the trailer for more tire clearance the only way to do it is flip the axle or add longer hangers. More than likely you already have the leaf springs on top of the axle. If by chance you don't, you can use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00. This is designed for 2-3/8" diameter axles which is the standard for a 3,500 lb axle.
