How To Switch The PD4645V Converter To Lithium Charging Profile

Question:

I recently bought lithium batteries for my Springdale travel trailer and need to switch the power converter to the PD4645V. I saw a blog by Jameson C that there is a switch that is needed to jumper it to work with lithium batteries. If I buy the power converter from you can you also provide the switch and instructions on how to install it? V,r Randy

Hey Randy, thanks for getting in touch.

The "switch" or "jumper" you are referring to is actually built-in as part of the # PD4645V converter, so there is nothing separate you need to order. Take a look at the picture I attached below. The jumper is part of the circuit board, and you simple move the jumper over to the LI side to switch to the lithium charging profile. I have included links to the manufacturer instructions below if you want a look.

I have a pd4645v converter without the Li switch and was wondering if there is still a way to jumper it to be able to use lithium batteries

@Kevin I'm afraid not. You would need to upgrade to the current version part # PD4645V. This is Lithium compatible.

Jessie, I just bought a pd4645v from you guys. Before installing i read the instructions to familiarize myself with the job. I remembered reading this comment section before making the purchase as i was concerned weather this model would do the lithium batteries. I looked for the lithium switch on the new part, looking for the switch you show in your picture, it isn't there. The date on the box is 5-18-2026 so I wouldn't think it would be one of the old ones. Please advise me what's going on. Thanks, Robert

@Robert Hey Robert. The # PD4645V can charge lithium batteries but they changed the design again so now it's not a switch but a tab that needs to be lifted off and moved to a new position. It should say "mode" right next to the tab.

@JesseM There is something marked "Mode". And to the right of it are two things marked "Charge rate", one above the other. And below them a button marked "Mode Select". The instructions talk about selecting different charge rates but that it will go back to auto once the battery is charged. Nothing about lithium. I tried to paste a pic of that area of the board but can't.

@Robert Yea the instructions aren't very clear on this part but if you look really closely at the board you should see the jumper. It should actually say "wiz" or "LI". It should be a black jumper on a white post. For Lithium charging you pull off the jumper and move it to the LI position. Take a look at this video. If you fast forward to about the 5:45 mark you can see Kevin point out the jumper:
