Recommended Replacement For A MagneTek 6345A Power Center Converter

Updated 08/11/2025 | Published 07/17/2022

Question:

Hi, I am a certified RV tech restoring a 1998 Chinook Concourse. It has the original MagneTek 6345A 45amp power station and the converter works but it is noisy. Can the converter section be replaced with the Progressive Dynamics PD 4045CSV? Another option might be the Mighty Mini AC/DC panel PD 4045KA if the above converter does not retrofit. Also, I am going to change to LiFePO4 batteries later this year. Will both these two components charge lithium batteries. Are either of them 2 stage lithium battery chargers fully charge the lithium battery to 14.4V to 14.6V, then down to 13.6V? It appears I can use them for the current lead acid batteries and then switch the converter to the lithium battery mode. Is that the case? Thanks for your help!

Hey David,

The correct fitting replacement converter cross-section for your MagneTek 6345A would be the Replacement Converter for Parallax/Magnetek or WFCO RV Power Centers - 45 Amp # PD4645V. This converter section is now compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, lithium, and gel batteries.

On the control board there's a small black jumper that will need to be in the LI position to properly charge your lithium batteries.

@Jeff The MagneTek 6345A is rated for 45 amps and so is the # PD4645V. The # PD4645V has also been confirmed to fit the same space as the original converter by Progressive Dynamics. I don't know what video you were watching but the # PD4645V would be the correct replacement and the PD4665V doesn't exist. Progressive currently only offers a 35 amp, 45 amp, and 55 amp version of their 4600 series replacement converter sections.

@Jeff Okay, I get what you're saying now. Earlier this year Progressive Dynamics updated the # PD4645V to be compatible with lithium. I'll update the answer above to reflect that change.

Hi Kevin, I hope you can help here. I purchased a nicely cared for 2000 Montana 2850rk knowing that the owner had mistakenly wired the shore plug using a 240v plug. He had plugged it into a 240v rv outlet for several seconds when we both heard the sound I'd describe as a transformer hum, and then everything shut down. Now, with a newly installed 120v 30 amp plug, the rv only has power to the gfci controlled outlets. I bought it because I'm thinking he only blew the power converter. I saw it working prior to the event, so I was hoping the new low price was worth the investment if I merely replaced the powered converter? Is there something I can do to confirm that it is the power converter? There is no detectable power to non gfci outlets or any appliances. Thanks for your help.

@GeorgeH You can check the breaker it's plugged into to make sure it's not tripped. If the fan's not running that's a pretty good sign the converter went out. You can open it up and look at the board and see if there's any sign the resistors have burnt out.
