Recommended Entry Door Latch For A Horse Trailer Mid-Tack Room

Updated 09/13/2024 | Published 09/03/2024

Question:

Im looking for a slam door latch for the mid-tack on my horse trailer. It is a standard cutout of 2-3/4x3-3/4, vertical orientation, 7/8inch thick door. This latch would work, but I would like one I can operate from inside. I also found product 295-000002 but that is for a thicker door. Do you have a latch like 295-000002 that works for a 7/8inch thick door?

Hey Jeff,

The entry door latches we offer have a minimum door thickness requirement of either 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" so you'd need to build up the thickness of the door on the inside of the trailer in order to install a new latch. With yours being 7/8" thick I would cut down a 3/8" thick piece of plywood to match the shape of the latch and then cut a hole in it to match the cutout hole in the door. It should essentially look like a wooden picture frame. You can paint it to match then door latch and then sandwich it between the two halves while installing the latch to get the right door thickness. With the spacer you could use the # 295-000002 that you were looking at to match to your horse trailer since it's chrome.
