Powered Trailer Jack and Winch Recommendations for an Enclosed Car Hauler Trailer

Updated 08/30/2024 | Published 08/26/2024

Question:

Few questions. I have a new custom 8.5 x 20 enclosed trailer. I really like the Lippert smart jack but have heard some bad reviews on case breaking and such. Do you sell a lot of these? Also, I am looking at a winch. Maybe Warn EVO or Smittybuilt but some say just get a cheaper harbor freight. I do want a synthetic rope and wireless report. Any other recommendations? I am pulling a 34 Coupe worth over 125k.

Thanks for reaching out and on your new trailer, Eric!

The Lippert Smart Jack # LC643589 is great in theory, but they've had issues with water leaking into the head, and I haven't recommended one since I found out that they don't cover that under warranty and their solution is to replace the jack entirely.

For a high-performance jack it's hard not to nod at the Ultra-Fab Phoenix # UF38-944040 because it's the fastest operating jack that we carry, and it uses a ball screw which is a very reliable trailer jack method.

Harbor Freight carries great convenience products, but if you're hauling precious cargo (like your Coupe), I recommend using a nicer winch so you can have more confidence that it's up to the task for the long haul.

For a different winch I recommend checking out the ComeUp UW-5000si Trailer Winch # CU645010 because it comes with synthetic rope and a wireless remote, plus it comes in a case so it will look nice and clean inside your trailer.

I'm attaching some videos of these parts for you to check out.

I got ahead of myself. I ended up getting the Smart Jack. However, I did buy a cover for it. Do you think I should still be concerned? I also purchased the Warn EVO 10-s. winch. I talked with the factory direct and they stated it's the only one produced by Warn in another county but still has the same warranty. He also said he has not seen any returns and for the price point it's the best winch on the market for the price and their #1 best seller. Thoughts?

@EricM Keeping a cover over it will go a long way in preventing that water damage. The jack in and of itself is a really cool design and works well - you just have to be a bit more careful with it than some of the other options on the market. Warn makes some great winches and if that's backed by a great warranty that just goes to show they really believe in their products. Sounds like you're all set! Happy towing with your new gear!
