Can I Upgrade a WF-8955PEC-GE Converter for LiFePO4 Batteries with the WF76FR?

Updated 07/06/2026 | Published 06/30/2026

Question:

I have a WF-8955PEC-GE power converter with distribution panel. I would like to upgrade to lifepo4 charging capability. I found 3 options to upgrade and Im not sure which will work. Can I buy the WF76FR and with that be good enough to upgrade the system or is something else needed? I also found the PD4655V which has a DC panel upgrade. But its more expensive. Do I need this or will the WF76FR be enough? I found on the WFCO website that a WF-8955-REP Converter Replacement Kit is available. Not sure what would be best, can you help? Thank you in advance for your help!

Great question Mark, thanks for the details!

Your WFCO WF-8955PEC-GE power center uses a removable converter section and the # WF76FR is the direct replacement main board assembly. It has WFCO's Auto Detect technology, which automatically switches between lead acid and LiFePO4 charging profiles, so it provides the lithium charging capability you're looking for without replacing the entire distribution panel.

The Progressive Dynamics Replacement Section # PD4655V is also a compatible option and will fit in the lower section of your WFCO power center but it isn't necessary unless you specifically prefer Progressive Dynamics. It replaces the lower converter section while leaving your existing AC breaker and DC fuse panel in place.

The WF-8955-REP replacement kit is another option, but it's intended as a complete converter replacement. Since your existing power center is compatible with the WFCO replacement main board assembly, the # WF76FR is the simple and more cost effective upgrade.

Are you planning to use the LiFePO4 upgrade primarily for boondocking, extended camping, or something else?
