Trailer Hitch to Fit Behind 2020 Dodge Durango Bumper Cover

Updated 01/28/2026 | Published 08/22/2024

Question:

I have a 2020 dodge Durango GT plus. I want to install a hitch to pull my cargo trailer. Is there a product that will hide behind the cover plate on the bumper so the hitch is not exposed when not towing? I look forward to your response. Thank you.

Hey Steven, thanks for reaching out!

You're going to want the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT38MR for your 2020 Dodge Durango because it sits right behind that cover you're talking about and still allows you to replace the cover when you aren't towing so you can maintain a sleek look on your vehicle.

To tow your trailer you'll also need wiring and a ball mount.

I recommend picking up the Curt T-Connector # C56336 and securing it to the crosstube of the hitch with the Mounting Brackets # 18144 and # C83DR, and then for a ball mount kit I recommend checking out the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e77DR. This ball mount gives you a 4" drop and when paired with the Draw-Tite hitch it will work great for trailers with a 15-1/2" coupler height.

Attached are some videos for you to check out as well as a photo showing the Draw-Tite hitch installed and with/without the cover on a 2020 Durango.

Hey Steven, how did the Draw-Tite hitch work out on your Durango with the bumper cover in place? It sounds like a clean setup when not towing. Sharing how it turned out could help others looking for the same hidden look.

@Lazer It works great. The cover hides it perfectly.

@LazerS as far as installation, I would like to add that a special wiring harness was needed, which increased labor time during install. All in for hitch, wiring and labor was about $700. This was at a local garage who I use for everything else so I trusted the process.
