Can 4.80/4.00/8 Tires Be Replaced With 5.70-8 Tires

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/18/2024

Question:

I have a bass boat trailer with 4.80/4.00/8 tires. I measure and they have 4 on 4 bolt pattern with 2.5 center hub, zero offset. I would like to get the 5.7 - 8 tire and wheel combo AM30153 for extra capacity/speed on the highway. Can it be direct replacement for my trailer? My fender will have clearance for 18inch tire outside diameter, there is plenty of extra room for the old tires. Thank you.

Hi Min,

Switching from 4.80/4.00/8 to 5.70-8 would increase your width by a half inch on each side and would give you an overall diameter of 18". The # AM30153 has 4 on 4 bolt pattern and 2.8" pilot hole with zero offset so as long as you've got enough clearance you would be good to go.

Hey Min, how did the swap to the 5.70-8 tire and wheel combo work out on your bass boat trailer? It sounds like you had the clearance for the larger diameter. Sharing how it performed could help others looking to upgrade for highway use.
