Base Plate Kit for 2023 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport Using Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/13/2024

Question:

I have a roadmaster Sterling towbar and I have a 2023 Jeep Wrangler sport unlimited and I need to get the base plate and what else will work with the towbar. My previous set up had a bar and two arms that fit into the base plate so I know that the new jeep is different and I’m not sure of what I need to purchase. Thanks! Steve Levin

Hi Steve; assuming you have the factory plastic or steel bumper you can use the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521453-5. This is going to be compatible with your Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar # RM-576. You will also need wiring, safety cables, and a supplemental braking system. I recommend the following:

-RoadMaster 64" Double Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-646 (Unless you have them from your previous setup)

-Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 (If you don't have ParkSense)

OR

-Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit # RM63MR (If you do have ParkSense)

-Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251

OR

-Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes # SM99243

You will need to choose between the braking systems based on the type of brakes you have on your motorhome, air or hydraulic. You may also need a high-low adapter to keep you level. I attached a link to an article below explaining how to measure, along with a link to our available high-low adapters. I also included some installation videos for your reference.

Hey Steve, how did the setup with the Roadmaster base plate and Sterling tow bar work out on your Wrangler? Did the wiring and braking system you chose fit smoothly with your motorhome’s brakes? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar flat tow setup.
