Question:

I, too, have a 2022 Palisade, with Hyundai crossbars on flush mounted rails, and a Yakima NX-18 roof cargo box. However, when equipped as such, the vehicle exceeds the 7’-2” height threshold on the local ferry, doubling the fare. Ouch, though thankfully the ferry workers often don’t measure too closely. Can you recommend an alternative crossbar system that will have a sufficiently lower profile, while still working with the cargo box?

The Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack # TH27QG that fits the flush rails on your 2022 Hyundai Palisade is about as low-profile as they come, and anything will only lower it maybe an inch.

We'll actually see a better reduction of height if we swap out your 16-1/2" tall Yakima SkyBox NX 18 # Y45AV with the 10" tall Yakima GrandTour Lo # Y46FR. This carbo box has 15 cu ft of storage as opposed to your current 18 cu ft, but it will also decrease your overall height by 6-1/2" which is much more significant than any new roof rack would offer.

Hey Whidbey, did the Thule WingBar Evo rack or the Yakima GrandTour Lo box help get your Palisade under that ferry height limit? Knowing how much clearance you gained could really help others trying to stay below the same threshold.
