Rear Suspension Enhancement for 2023 Gulf Stream Motorhome on E-450 Chassis

Updated 08/12/2024 | Published 08/03/2024

Question:

I have a 2023 Gulf Stream on a E450 Heavy Duty chassis. I am looking to smooth out the ride at the rear because it is quite rough over bumps on the road. Otherwise if no bumps its not as bad. I do not experience a lot of swaying since my rig is 25 feet. What will help smooth out the ride a little? I just purchased the Roadmaster Reflex steering stabilizer and would like advice on a smoother ride.

Hello again Klara; to help smooth out your ride the best option is the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-130-54 you were looking at. These help absorb those bumps you're experiencing so you will have a better ride quality. Since they work independently they also help compensate for any off-center loads like a kitchen or slide-out if your motorhome has one. I know you said you aren't experiencing a lot of sway but they will reduce the bit of sway you are experiencing as well. The SumoSprings don't require any maintenance and come with a limited lifetime warranty.

Hi Robin, Should I add Sumo springs or replace my stock shocks? So much info circulating online of rough rides after updates. My motorhome has low miles and once we take it on long rides, we are anticipating rougher rides. Thanks again

@Klara you could replace the shocks, but I would start by adding the SumoSprings or add them with new shocks. One other thing I didn't mention is that the SumoSprings help reduce the wear on your suspension components which is just another advantage to using them. This is especially true if you're planning on long rides so they will help those other parts like springs and shocks last longer. The SumoSprings are going to be the better, more noticeable upgrade.
