Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 07/31/2024

Question:

I have a 2021 Ram 3500 the brake controller only puts out 6 volts under 25 M.P.H. Have you heard about this ? If so do you offer something that would help me with the brake problem. At lower speeds I some times have problem stopping. Any help would be appreciated.THANKS

Hey Jerry, thanks for reaching out!

I'm guessing you've tried adjusting the gain on your 2021 Ram 3500 factory controller? If you increase the gain this will cause the trailer brakes to engage more aggressively.

According to your owner's manual you'll want to take your towing rig to an empty parking lot and use different gain settings to get the trailer wheels to a setting just under locking up. You'll get to 25 MPH and then use your manual override to figure this out.

If you get to the point where you want to use a different brake controller then I recommend checking out the Curt Echo In-Line # C79DR which tees in behind your 7-Way and overrides what your OEM factory controller is sending to the trailer brakes.

Hey Jerry, how did things go after you tried adjusting the gain on your Ram’s brake controller? Did that help smooth out braking at lower speeds, or did you end up trying the Curt Echo In-Line controller? Your update could make it easier for others with the same issue.
