Why Can't You Go Faster Than 55 MPH When Using the Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier

Updated 07/30/2024 | Published 07/27/2024

Question:

I have the Flint Hill Goods 30inch x 50inch Wheelchair Carrier w/ 60inch Ramp - 2inch Hitch that I use to haul an E~Beachwagon to the beach. Been using it for 2 years, works really well, no complaints and you folks really helped decide this was the best carrier to choose. Why does Flint Hill Goods state that when using the carrier the max vehicle speed is 55mph??? Most highways I drive on have a max speed limit of 65mph and who doesnt go at least 5mph over that!? Thanx, Rob.

Rob, I believe the 55 mph speed rating is just a safety net. You can probably bump up your speed using good judgment. So like if you have a ton of cargo in the carrier you'll probably want to keep the speed down, but if not you can just go normal speeds.

Thanx Bryce. I still don't see what vehicle speed has to do with a carrier, makes no sense. Perhaps their concern is loading the carrier up to its hitch max of 350lbs and driving over rough bouncy roads where the force of the load weight increases the stress on the carrier and car frame. Between the weight of the carrier itself and the weight of the wagon sitting on it, it's about a total of just over 200lbs. At 75mph and hitting highway storm drains in the left hand lane there is a bunch of bounce for sure! But the carrier and car hitch are Solid. Cheers, Rob.
