Hitch Pin Is Digging Hole Into Receiver Tube on a Ford F-150 With Weight Distribution Hitch

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/02/2024

Question:

I purchased from Etrailer my BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2, 2-1/2, and 3inch Hitches - Codes to Ford Key Item BL7018447 and Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW Item RP66084. After continued use towing my Winnibago MInnie 2729RG with my Ford F150 over the past month on a road trip of ~3900 miles, I disconnected and found that the curved portion of the Bolt pin had worn into the hitch receiver. The pin itself showed no signs of wear. This would appear to be a potential problem for any hitch pin with a curved end.

Expert Reply:

It appears your hitch has too much slop in the receiver tube. This little bit of slop looks like it has allowed the hitch pin to be pulled into the receiver with lots of force. You will want to use an Anti-Rattle # BX88224 with the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66084 and eliminate the excess movement. Then the BOLT Lock # BL7018447 will not be pulled around like it has been.

Hey, how did things go after adding the anti-rattle device with your Strait-Line weight distribution setup? Did it help stop the BOLT hitch lock from wearing into the receiver? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.
