How to Remove Rear 2022 Lexus RX 350 Kick Assembly to Install Curt Trailer Hitch

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/21/2024

Question:

I have purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch receiver #C73DR. I am going to install it on my 2022 Lexus RX 350 with the rear hatch kick sensor. I am unsure of how to protect/remove the sensor while I am cutting the notch in the facia for the receiving tube clearance. Can you send me pictures and give me an explanation of how to do this. I have seen the pictures of the sensor where they talk about removing two clips, but on my car it appears to be a panel which runs along the inside of the facia and I don't know if I can remove it or simply pry it up off the facia while cutting the notch. Help!

Hey Jerry, thanks for reaching out and for your recent purchase of the Curt Trailer Hitch receiver # C73DR for your 2022 Lexus RX 350!

We haven't removed that style of sensor yet, but when I did some research into what that sensor looks like I was seeing that there are 2 screws and some guides that hold it in place. If you remove those 2 screws you should be able to slip the whole assembly loose so you don't cut it while you're trimming the fascia.

I don't have any photos or videos of this process but I'm sure you'll be able to find something online that demonstrates this for you.

Hey Jerry, were you able to get the kick sensor loose while trimming the fascia for your Curt hitch on the Lexus RX 350? Knowing how that panel came off could really help others with the same setup. Your update could make it easier for the next person tackling this install.
