Will Curt Hitch Throw a Code for Liftgate Kick Sensor on a 2025 Honda Pilot Black Edition

Question:

Hi I have a 2025 Honda pilot black edition with hands free liftgate. Im just wondering if the hitch can be installed directly without doing anything about the hitch. I mean, I dont use the hands free liftgate frequently. And If the hitch blocked the sensor, make it nonfunctional, its totally ok to me. But just want to double check if the car will give me any error messages in that case, like the sensor is blocked error message?

Hey B, thanks for reaching out!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C22HR won't throw any codes on your 2025 Honda Pilot if the rear kick sensor ends up being blocked enough that it has trouble reading any foot movements - that feature will simply struggle to operate is all.

The best way we've found to get a stubborn sensor to pick up movement is to move your foot back and forth like you're kicking a soccer ball instead of "swiping" your foot from side to side.

Hey B, how did things go with the Curt hitch on your Pilot’s hands-free liftgate? Did the sensor still pick up movement when you used the soccer-kick motion? Your experience could help others thinking about the same setup.

@KatrinaD Thanks for following up! I actually just turned that function off. Sort of trade-off in my case. The hitch works great, sturdy and robust. Highly recommend.
