Question:

I have a 2022 Acura MDX Advance Package with a temporary spare. I’m looking at the Curt C22HR hitch and see the mini spare can be stowed with an 18” wheel but not clear with the answers I’m seeing for mini spares with a 20” wheel. The spare wheel diameter is 20” and the overall spare is about 27” in diameter. Can I keep my spare stowed with this hitch installed?

I will be happy to clear up the confusion for you. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C22HR you referenced and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver item # DT42MR will only accommodate the 18" spare on your 2022 Acura MDX. These are the only two hitches available for your 2022 MDX and both have the same dimensions and limitations when it comes to room for your spare tire. The spare tire mounted on the 20" wheel will not fit. Both of these hitches are custom fit and bolt directly to your MDX with included hardware. I recommend the etrailer Hitch Receiver item # e27KR over the Curt because its the same hitch but a different color. I have attached an installation video and a picture of the space the spare tire fits in once the hitch is installed.

To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.

I have the 20” spare. Do I have to replace my spare tire and get an 18” to make the hitch fit or is there an alternative?

@Michael Yes, you do. All of the hitches available for the 2022 Acura MDX will have the same limitations not just the item # C22HR referenced in the above question.
