Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller on 2023 Hyundai Palisade With Factory 7-Way

Question:

What if my 2024 Hyundai palisade already has a 7pin wiring harness? I had the dealership install the tow hitch today and the ppwk says it’s 7-pin, but I’m wondering what I need to operate trailer brakes

If you have a 7-way already then you only need the brake controller. There are no aftermarket plug and play wiring harnesses for installation so installing one like the # 90195 will require splicing. The only exception would be if they actually used the Tekonsha # TK64CR to add a 7-way but I don't think it is the same as the factory harness. You can check under your dash to see if a brake controller plug is there or ask the dealership if they know. If that is the case, it would have the plug that fits Tekonsha brake controllers.

My personal recommendation would be to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. This brake controller is simple and reliable. It also doesn't take up space in the cab since the main unit installs behind the dash. Only the control knob will be visible giving it a nice clean OEM look. If you find that you have the Tekonsha plug then you would need the # RED24FR along with the adapter # 331-TPH-017 instead.
