Availability Of Wide Base Tires For A Walk Behind Tractor

Published 04/10/2024

Question:

Good morning, I am looking for wheels/tires for my walk behind tractor. We use it for trail building and need something with more float over soft soil, like an aggressive balloon type tire. It uses a 4 bolt hub. Currently is has 5x10x21 tires on it. Need something closer to 10 wide or wider, ideally with a similar overall height. Let me know if you have anything that might work. thankyou, Greg C

Hello Greg, I am afraid that we do not offer a tire that will fit a 4 lug wheel and is also 10" wide or more. The closest thing we offer would be a 205/65-10 tire like part # AM3H460 which is about 8.4" wide and 20.4" in diameter. Or even a 215/60-8 tire that is 8.9" wide, but only 18.3" in diameter like part # AM3H290.

From there, any wider tire would need to be on a 5 lug or 6 lug wheel. These 205/65-10 tires are a wider base tire like you are looking for but they are not necessarily designed for this kind of agricultural use. They are really indented to only be used as trailer tires. I suggest that you find a place that specializes in tractor tires. They should have something more suited for your application. I do thank you for checking with us though. Cheers.

ok thanks for your help! Would any of your 4x4 rims be appropriate for wider tire? With something like the 8.4 or 8.9" tire, what should be the appropriate wheel width? thanks!

@GregC So, the 205/65-10 tires are intended to go on a 10" diameter 6" wide rim. The 215/60-8 tires go on an 8" diameter 7" wide rim. the 8" diameter 7" wide rim is the widest 4x4 rim we have. Much more standard are the 4" wide and 5" wide 4x4 wheels.
