I highly recommend going with the Curt Echo In-Line Bluetooth Brake Controller w/ OneControl App # C79DR because it plugs in behind the 7-Way on your 2022 BMW X5 45e and you adjust the settings via an app on your phone. The controller will then operate on it's own and you can use the Override Button # C83HR so you don't have to have your phone opened up while you're towing just for access to the manual override button.

We have a variety of plug-in controllers that I really like as well, but when I looked up the owner's manual for your vehicle the manual was extremely vague about the wiring and basically said you need to take your vehicle to a dealer to get a brake controller installed. The In-Line is a really simple installation and it doesn't require any kind of cutting or splicing when it comes to wires which is a big reason why I recommend it.
