Question:

I have existing Blue Ox tow bars and was looking at the Blue Ox BX1758 since I upgraded my tow vehicle to a 2023 GMC Canyon. My previous vehicle had a non portable break system connection that was directly wired so that it did not kill my battery while in transit. The breaking and lighting were tied to my RV. I need help in finding the needed parts to utilize the same setup with the BX1758. Thank you.

Hey Ken, so the first thing you will need is a base plate kit like the Blue Ox part # BLU85CR which fits your 2023 GMC Canyon and would be compatible with your Blue Ox tow bar.

I do not know what braking system you had in the past but for a permanent install option the Demco Stay In Play part # SM99251 would work great.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.
