Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X

Updated 09/15/2025 | Published 05/24/2025

Question:

Question guys, I’ve got a 24’ GMC 2500 HD AT4x that I’d really like to set up for flat towing behind my 24’ Ford E-450 with the 7.3 gas motor. Could you help me out and let me know what I’d need to flat tow it safely? I’m decently mechanically inclined and have tools I take with me. Thank you!!

Hey Chett, the first thing you need to flat tow your 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 is a base plate kit. For that the best option is the Roadmaster Direct Connect kit part # RM33GR.

In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon All 3HD, # RM27NQ. This has non-binding arms which makes the setup very easy to connect/disconnect.

For lighting/safety cables, locks, and covers for the tow bar we have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain kit part # RM-9243-1 which comes with all of that as one part number. The diode kit that comes with this allows you to splice into the taillight wiring so that your RV controls the vehicle taillights and does not require drilling into the taillight housings. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

The lighting kit and the base plate would be the most involved as far as install goes but definitely sounds like it wouldn't be a problem for you.

Hey Chett, did you have a chance to set up your GMC Sierra 2500 for flat towing with the suggested base plate kit and other components? I'm curious to know how the installation went and if everything worked smoothly for you. Your experience could be really helpful for others looking to do the same setup!

Hi Jameson, I do appreciate the info you provided for my gmc, I’ve decided to use my 22 bronco black diamond with the mod bumper instead. My biggest issue that I have right now is my 450 receiver is only 12” off the ground and my bronco pull points are 23” off the ground. That tells me I need a 10” rise receiver adaptor. That’s a lot. I know the 450 can pull the bronco no problem, I’m just a bit worried about that high of a rise over time.

@Chett The high low adapter would be fine. They are designed to be able to withstand that height difference so I wouldn't stress too much about it.
