Question:
How much material needs to be removed during the hole enlargement? The installation manual does not show any pictures of this step, even though it says it is necessary.

So there isn't an exact amount of material needed to be removed when enlarging the access hole on your Subaru WRX when installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C84ZV.
You'll use a die grinder for this and you'll just enlarge it until you can get the 1/2" fasteners through. Typically this isn't much, about 1/4" or so, but they don't give an exact amount because that is very, very difficult to quantify when doing the install.
