Can Hopkins Trailer Wiring Kit Cause 1996 Buick Roadmaster Fuel Pump to Stop Working

Question:

I used this harness and on my 96 Buick Roadmaster Wagon and followed the instruction where to plug into which side and also attached the white ground. After install this causes my fuel pump to no longer work until I unplug it and plug the tail lights into the factory harness. I’m not understanding why this happens.

Hey Cody, thanks for reaching out.

The only thing I can think of that the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141195 might be doing to cause the fuel pump to no longer work on your 1996 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon is that it might be pulling some power and you have a weak battery that isn't able to give power to the tail lights with this harness installed as well as run your fuel pump.

Your fuel pump shouldn't be tied to the tail light circuits at all so I'm honestly a bit confused as to how this wiring harness could be affecting the fuel pump at all. Did the 4-Way connector have all of the light functions present after you were done with the installation?

When things malfunction with a wiring harness installed it could be that the harness is bad and needs to be replaced but I can't guarantee this will fix your issue since these should be two different wiring systems.
