Question:
Shopping for a distribution hitch and am somewhat confused. I am pulling a car hauler and will definitely need to be able to back up. Are some able to be backed?

There are weight distribution hitches that do allow for backing up while still hitched up, like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET. Each of these hitches have about a 400lb tongue weight range so it's important that you measure for your trailer's fully loaded tongue weight so that you can choose the correct hitch.
With your trailer being a car hauler you most likely have large variations in weight so a better, but more expensive, option would be the B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System # BW78FR. This system will allow for backing up and has a 1,000lb tongue weight range (600lbs - 1,600lbs). The hydraulic pump makes leveling the truck and trailer fast and easy and this system works well on shorter trailer tongues, like most car hauler trailers have.
Before purchasing anything you'll want to fully load your trailer and either use a tongue weight scale # e99044 or go to a highway weight station to measure your tongue weight. To measure it at a weigh station you'll need to hook up to the trailer and drive onto the scale with only the 4 wheels of the truck on the scale. You can then disconnect from the trailer and weight the truck again and the difference between these two numbers is your tongue weight.
