Suspension Enhancement Options For A 2015 Ford Expedition Experiencing Body Roll While Towing

Updated 08/21/2023 | Published 08/20/2023

Question:

I have a 2015 Ford Expedition and pull a 24’ 5,000 pound travel trailer. Even with my weight distribution hitch with sway control I get a push from semis and large motor homes when I am over taken from the back. My expedition also still sags a little even though I put some heavy duty Bilstein shocks on. Would air bags and a Hellweg sway bar help and what do you recommend? Thanks,

Air springs offer a more fine-tuned way to help reduce sag since you can adjust the psi level to help offset your trailer's specific tongue weight, whereas the shocks are really only going to help with jarring bumps in the road. Anti-sway bars are also a good option to help prevent body roll with your vehicle. You'll always have a slight amount of sag, even with a weight distribution hitch, but you can typically get within an inch or two of your factory ride height.

For the rear anti-sway bar your 2015 Ford Expedition would need the Hellwig Rear Anti-Sway Bar # HE74GR. We unfortunately don't have a fit for air springs for your specific vehicle at this time though.

I recommend making sure that the weight distribution hitch you're using has a tongue weight range that your trailer would fall in the middle of for the best results. You could also look into suspension enhancement for the trailer to help stop the body roll before it works its way through the trailer up to the Expedition. We offer SumoSprings, like part # TSS-107-40, that can fit the axle depending on whether it's overslung/underslung and the capacity of the axle. These springs can help reduce side to side body roll with the trailer to lessen the strain placed on the WDH and Expedition.
