Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For V-Nose Trailer

Published 08/03/2023

Question:

I have a v-nose trailer with about 33-34 inches of distance on the top of the frame between the ball and where a top mounted bracket might interfere with the v-nose of the trailer. I could potentially go a hair longer with a side mount bracket. What are my options for a weight distribution hitch with anti-sway. I pulled into my local truck/trailer shop and they said I dont have enough room on the frame to make it work.

Thank you for providing that picture and measurement. Based on what you have there there is definitely enough room to install a weight distribution hitch. I recommend the Fastway e2 which will require placing the brackets 27-30" back along the frame, leaving you with room to spare.

The correct system will depend on the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # e99044. I have also attached an article below which covers other ways to measure. Once you have your tongue weight you can choose one of the following:

-Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 (up to 450 lbs of tongue weight)

-Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0600 (250-600 lb tongue weight range)

-Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800 (400-800 lb tongue weight range)

-Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-1000 (600-1.000 lb tongue weight range)

-Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-1200 (800-1,200 lb tongue weight range)

Ideally you want your tongue weight to fall into the middle of the tongue weight range of the system. You will also need # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball along with # ALL643216 for hitch ball installation. The only exception to this is the 450 lb system which requires the # ALL643210 socket instead along with # 40038 for a 2" ball or # C40005 for a 2-5/16" ball.

All of these fit frames up to 6" tall. I can't quite tell your frame height from the picture, it looks like it might be close. If you have a frame that is taller you can use the # EQ90-02-5378 and # EQ90-02-5208 on each side which will work with 8" tall trailer frames. These will also require the # EQ90-04-9281 to mount them.

I have attached a review and installation video below for your reference.
