Can A Curt Echo Brake Controller Be Used On a 2019 Ford F-150 With A Factory Brake Controller
Published 07/26/2023 >
Question:
I purchased a travel trailer and was pulling it with a toyota highlander and the curt echo mobile brake controller. Recently purchased a Ford 2019 F-150 Xl 5.5 bed that had an integrated tow controller. Will there be any negative reactions between the two controllers? Is it ok to use them together? The trailer brakes started locking up with same controller and configuration I had on the toyota highlander. Also, I have seen many videos on integrating the Echo but none showing someone going through the process to configure it. Seems easy enough but like to research things well.

The Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 will actually override the factory brake controller in your 2019 Ford F-150 when plugged in so it's perfectly safe to use it even though you have the factory controller already in place. We typically won't fully configure the brake controller to the truck and trailer in our videos since we the owner might have different preferences than we do while towing.
That being said, on the main page you'll have your manual override button, max output (gain), and sensitivity adjustment. The max output is going to be your braking force and I typically recommend starting out at about half power and getting up to about 40mph and then activate the brakes to see how it feels and then adjust up or down accordingly until it gets to a comfortable pressure. The sensitivity setting can also be adjusted in this manner until you feel that the brakes are being applied at your comfort level.
