Question:

Does the upper shackle mount use a bushing? Or does it just ride on the outside edges of the shackle bolt when installed? Can a tube be welded in to install a bronze bushing for longer wear and less stress on the shackle bolt?

You need to have a bushing installed on each bolt that comes in the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APS4.

For this I recommend picking up the Nylon Bushings # SP05-060 which have the appropriate inner diameter and length for the hangers, and comes with 6 bushings to match the number of bolts in the kit. The only thing you'll need to check on is the 3/4" outer diameter to make sure these fit inside the leaf springs (if your leaf springs didn't come with bushings).
