Troubleshooting Too Much Play With Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs

Question:
I purchased the Brophy bed mount truck tie-downs, model HSSF and have a question. When they are mounted, are they suppose to be fairly solid without the camper attached to the truck bed? The T-bar does not contact the bed frame unless I pull up on the mounting tab, simulating a pull from the camper turnbuckle. Wondering if I should have the longer T-bolts? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs # HSSF will have a very slight amount of play since there is a compressible pad to prevent scratches on the bedrails, but it sounds like you're having much more significant play. I've attached a picture from an install of this part and you can see that the bolt is at its limit on threads. If you're seeing the same with your install then I recommend picking up longer T-Bolts with part # BR2007 to close the gap and tighten it down more to your bedrails.

Can I install the bed rail mounts inside both of the mounts on the camper when loading a short box camper on a long box pickup? The camper mounts are 63” apart so the bed rail mounts would be 60” or so apart on the rear 2/3 of the bed rail since there is a “garage” up front of the camper. I know this is confusing, I apologize.
