Is it Okay to Tap Vehicle Weld Nuts for Install of Trailer Hitch
Updated 05/16/2023 | Published 05/15/2023 >
Question:
2/4 of the weld nuts on my 2016 Chevy traverse frame for the hitch have stripped. Am I able to use a tap and tethered the bolts or am I better off breaking them off and using a carriage bolt?

Expert Reply:
Its the most common for people to tap the weld nuts to a larger size so that would be what I would recommend. Breaking them off and using carriage bolts is an option but sometimes it can be pretty difficult getting them in position.
