What Pressure Should Trailer Tires Actually be Ran At

Question:

Howdy, what psi should i run in these tires? 60 seems a bit much, but should i obey the cold psi rigidly? A mechanic told me to run 42 psi because it would explode from warm-up if i put it to cold-60, but Ive blown out about 4 of these tires in two years, and Im sick of it. How much would the pressure expand at highway speed with these? Im guessing a lot, because the volume is so small? A 420 pound flatbed, no more than 1100 pounds loaded. Single axle. Thank you.

Trailer tire pressure ratings are different from vehicle tires. With trailer tires you want to always inflate them to the max psi rating when cold and as long as you aren't exceeding the weight capacity and speed rating any psi fluctuation will be totally fine and not need to be monitored.

If you under-inflate them (sounds like you might have been) they will build heat up quickly which eventually leads to failures like blow outs.

The # AM30000 should be ran at it's 60 psi rating. It has a 590 lb weight capacity so if your trailer has only a single axle you'd be slightly over it's weight capacity if you were 1,100 lbs loaded. For a similar setup that has a higher capacity we have the part # AM30040 which is rated for 745 lbs at 90 psi.
